Split di M. Night Shyamalan Recensione – Split by M. Night Shyamalan Review

“Chi ha sofferto è più evoluto, gioisci!” Split è un film del 2016 scritto e diretto da M. Night Shyamalan e interpretato da James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jessica Sula, Haley Lu Richardson e Betty Buckley. Che cos’è Split ? Molto semplicemente il ritorno al grande cinema di M Night Shyamalan. . Ricordiamo che questo regista è stato uno dei più strani in circolazione, nel senso che iniziò alla grande, i produttori tra cui Harvey Weinstein lo insultarono, gli dissero che non era un vero regista e molto altro, ma lui se ne infischiò e fece quel grandissimo film che rilanciò la carriera attoriale di Bruce Willis ovvero “Il sesto senso” del 1999. M Night Shyamalan arriva poi nel 2000 al suo terzo film, si parla di “The Unbreakable – Il predestinato” dove ancora Bruce Willis è un inconsapevole supereroe da fumetto il cui antagonista è un fragile e sorprendente Samuel L. Jackson (film da ricordare prima di Split). Nel 2002 scrive e dirige Signs, Mel Gibson nei panni del pastore che ha perso la moglie, ma che ha trovato alieni e cerchi nel grano, ancora un buon successo al botteghino, ma cominciano i problemi nella sceneggiatura e nella regia. Con The Village (2004) gira invece un bel film a cavallo tra l’horror e il grottesco, molto interessante con un cast decisamente ricco, dalla Weaver a William Hurt. Tra il 2006 e il 2013 cominciano gli insuccessi per M Night Shyamalan, perchè dirige “Lady In The Water” favoletta tra il fantasy e il semi horror, flop totale. Quindi comincia per Shyamalan un periodo in cui probabilmente ha iniziato a non starci più molto con la testa, poichè nel 2008 esce un film in cui il vento è il nemico, è ciò di cui aver paura, nonostante tutto comunque a me piacque, si sta parlando di “E venne il giorno” con degli attori anche buoni tra cui Betty Buckley e Mark Wahlberg. Nel 2010 si cimenta nel genere fantastico con un flop totale, un film decisamente molto brutto diretto ad una fascia d’età tra i dieci anni e non più, ovvero “L’ultimo dominatore dell’aria”. Ma ecco che nel 2013 M Night Shyamaln sembra voler ritornare a fare cinema di un certo tipo, dirige quindi un film fantascientifico post apocalittico con i due Smith, padre e figlio, che non risulta un buon film, anzi abbastanza brutto, ma che segna comunque un desiderio di tornare a fare cinema serio. Nel 2015 M Night Shyamalan torna al grande cinema, perchè si cimenta in una produzione a basso costo, con The Visit girato in stile falso documentario, usato per la prima volta da Shyamalan, con la tecnica del punto di vista. Con una produzione di 5 milioni di dollari il film ne incassa 98.5 in tutto il mondo riportando la stella del regista indiano a brillare ancora una volta ricevendo anche la migliore accoglienza da parte della critica dai tempi di Signs. Ma torniamo a Split : questo film del 2017 segna la resurrezione di M Night Shyamalan, seguiamo le vicende di Kevin Wendell Crumb, che è un ragazzo che forse ha subito qualcosa in passato e che ha dei seri disturbi mentali, infatti ha 23 personalità diverse. Kevin è interpretato da un grandissimo James McAvoy, speriamo che questa sua interpretazione, a mio parere immensa, possa ottenere una candidatura agli Oscar del prossimo anno. In questo film lo seguiamo nei panni di Kevin, che ha 23 personalità diverse, ma soprattutto nei panni di Dennis, una delle 23 personalità che avrà maggiore spazio nel film, è un sequestratore e all’inizio del film, in una scena bellissima, Dennis sequestra tre giovani ragazze. Bellissima questa scena per un motivo molto semplice, è girato in un’auto, Dennis addormenta con un gas le due ragazze sedute dietro, ma non lo fa subito anche con la ragazza seduta davanti accanto a lui, come se si fidasse, come se sapesse che lei non aprirebbe la portiera per scappare, insomma forse già annusando l’aria e sentendo la presenza di lei, Dennis capisce che sono simili, che forse entrambi hanno subito qualcosa. Torniamo quindi alla frase di inizio recensione : “Chi ha sofferto è più evoluto, gioisci!”. Questa frase avrà tutto un suo significato e tutto un suo senso all’interno del film, e proprio come già detto, avrà proprio un suo senso nella scena iniziale, forse entrambi nel loro passato hanno subito, hanno sofferto e quindi si fidano in qualche modo l’uno dell’altra. La ragazza che non verrà addormentata subito e che avrà maggiore spazio nel film è la Casey Cook della grandissima Anya Taylor-Joy, che avevamo già visto nel bellissimo The Witch (2016) di Robert Eggers e in Morgan (2016) di Luke Scott. James McAvoy è straordinario, tra le sue personalità quelle che avranno maggiore spazio saranno Dennis, l’ossessivo compulsivo ma anche sequestratore, Barry uno stilista, appassionato di moda, borghese ma anche omosessuale, Ma anche Patricia, una donna morigerata, molto calma, che gira con una croce al collo, quindi religiosa, molto attenta alla salute e al benessere delle tre ragazze e che dovrà prepararle. Infine vedremo abbastanza anche Hedwig, una delle personalità che sostiene di essere un bambino di nove anni, che confiderà ad esse che prossimamente saranno sacrificate a “La Bestia”, la ventiquattresima personalità. Insomma il film è molto bello, oserei dire grandissimo film, in cui vedremo una guerra di personalità all’interno di un unico personaggio, ovvero Kevin, un film bellissimo pieno di sorprese e azione con un McAvoy superlativo. Decisamente spaventosa una scena che forse può apparire invece sul ridicolo, che vorrebbe scatenare risate, ovvero la scena in cui vediamo Hedwig ballare come un pazzo, fare dei movimenti stranissimi e contorcersi, spaventosa, M Night Shyamalan però che è un bravissimo regista riesce sempre a spezzare quella sottile linea tra serietà e comicità, provocando davvero la risata con la frase di Hedwig a Casey dopo un bacio : “Adesso sei incinta”. Decisamente degna di nota anche la bravissima Betty Buckley nei panni della psicologa di Kevin, che capirà osservandolo e parlandogli che ha fatto qualcosa e che è giunto il momento di fermarlo. In questo bellissimo film vedremo quindi più piani narrativi, più prospettive, quella delle mentalità di Kevin, quella dei pensieri della psicologa e quella dei pensieri e dei ricordi di Casey (bravissima e bellissima Anya Taylor-Joy) che forse in passato ha subito violenze da parte di uno zio porco. Grande scena finale con Bruce Willis che palesa quindi il collegamento tra Split e quel bellissimo film sempre con Willis, ovvero “The Unbreakable – Il predestinato” del 2000. Il collegamento si poteva già notare nella scena in cui Dennis, una delle personalità di Kevin porta i fiori sul treno dove si trasforma poi nella bestia. Il padre di Kevin, come ci verrà derìtto, “aveva preso il treno” anni fa, probabilmente lo stesso treno che deraglia all’inizio di “The Unbreakable – Il predestinato”. Insomma .. Split è davvero un grandissimo film !

Split is really a great movie!
