La battaglia di Hacksaw Ridge di Mel Gibson Recensione – Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson Review

“Mi sono innamorata di te perché sei diverso dalle altre persone e perché non provi ad essere come loro. Non pensare mai di avermi deluso! Ti amerò per sempre”

Frase molto significativa all’interno di questo quasi capolavoro di Mel Gibson. Significativa per un motivo ben preciso, perchè Desmond Doss (bravissimo Andrew Garfield) è veramente diverso, è l’unico personaggio che vedremo mai in un film di guerra, andare in contro al nemico senza alcuna arma. Storia vera incredibile che solo un regista come Mel Gibson avrebbe potuto realizzare così bene. Mel Gibson lo conosciamo, Inizialmente noto per le serie di film di Mad Max e Arma letale, nel tempo Gibson si è dato a ruoli drammatici e alla regia, riuscendo ad aggiudicarsi l’Oscar al miglior regista nel 1996 col film Braveheart – Cuore impavido. Nel 2004 ha diretto il colossal La passione di Cristo e nel 2006 Apocalypto, un film incentrato sulla storia delle civiltà precolombiane. Nel 2016 è uscito il quinto film da regista, il film bellico La battaglia di Hacksaw Ridge, ambientato durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Sono stato molto contento, appena uscito dalla sala ho capito immediatamente che quello che avevo appena visto significava grande cinema e significa il ritorno al grande cinema del nuovo Mel Gibson, e spero anche, mi spiace per La La Land, che Mel si porti qualcosa a casa, se lo meriterebbe, perchè questo film rappresenta in tutto e per tutto il suo ritorno e la sua redenzione. Questo perchè come sappiamo Mel Gibson ha avuto diversi problemi, riguardanti l’alcol, alcune probabili patologie mentale, infatti sappiamo che trascorse un periodo della sua vita frequentando un programma di riabilitazione psichica e pagando 600 dollari di multa in seguito ad alcune accuse riguardanti violenze, maltrattamenti, razzismo e minacce di morte ad una sua ex moglie. Proprio in seguito a questi fatti Mel Gibson ebbe diversi problemi con Hollywood tra cui il licenziamento dall’agenzia William Morris Endeavor Entertainment. Insomma Mel Gibson ha avuto dei trascorsi non proprio onesti e puliti, ma ora è tornato, Mel Gibson si redime, dirigendo un quasi capolavoro, c’è chi ha contestato il suo modo di fare cinema per via dell’uso eccessivo del sangue e della violenza, c’è chi lo ha targato ormai come regista violento e niente altro. Ma con questo film Mel Gibson fa una cosa veramente significativa, che solo un regista altrettanto grande come Terrence Malick riuscì a fare nel 1998 con il capolavoro “La sottile linea rossa”. Infatti questi due film sono accomunati da un fatto molto importante ovvero che non sono film di guerra, ma film sulla guerra. Infatti questo altrettanto bello “La battaglia di Hacksaw Ridge” è un film in cui la componente bellica occuperà soltanto un segmento del film, il più bello, poichè prima si prende tutto il tempo per preparare lo spettatore a ciò che vedrà, c’è quindi una riflessione sulla guerra, sui morti, sulla vita e di come sia facile perderla in guerra e c’è una riflessione sugli uomini e sulla morale. Infatti seguiremo le vicende del nostro protagonista Desmond Doss, interpretato da un bravissimo Andrew Garfield non peraltro candidato all’oscar come miglior attore protagonista, nel suo percorso dalla fanciullezza alla maturità. Belli i segmenti in cui Desmond è bambino, in cui vedremo il padre veterano di guerra, la sua influenza sulla famiglia, e quindi le conseguenze su un uomo della guerra, interpretato da un sempre bravo Hugo Weaving. Un film che inoltre riflette sul nucleo famigliare, sull’importanza dell’unione in una famiglia, sull’importanza dell’amore, bella la relazione tra Desmond e Dorothy interpretata da una bellissima e brava Teresa Palmer. Ma non solo, perchè “La battaglia di Hacksaw Ridge” è un film religioso, sarà molto importante per Desmond la religione, infatti lui pregherà Dio di poter trovare ancora un uomo vivo, e lo farà ogni volta prima di buttarsi al salvataggio. Le scene di guerra sono realizzate magnificamente, forse le più belle che ho visto in tanti film di guerra sono qui, Mel Gibson è un bravissimo regista e molto attento ai dettagli, realizza quindi delle inquadrature e delle sequenze belliche violente ma estremamente spettacolari. Belli alcuni personaggi secondari per esempio il sergente Howell interpretato da un bravo Vince Vaughn, o anche il capitano Glover interpretato da un bravo Sam Worthington. La battaglia di Hacksaw Ridge.. quasi un capolavoro, sicuramente un grandissimo film, non peraltro candidato a sei premi Oscar…. Mel tifo per te !!

The war scenes are beautifully realized, perhaps the most beautiful I’ve seen in many war movies are here, Mel Gibson is a talented director and very attentive to detail, then realizes the shots and sequences of violent conflict but extremely spectacular. Belli some secondary characters such as the Sergeant Howell starring Vince Vaughn a good, or even Captain Glover played by a good Sam Worthington. The Battle of Hacksaw Ridge .. almost a masterpiece, definitely a great movie, not, however, nominated for six Academy Awards …. Mel cheering for you !!
